In accordance with the need to introduce digital labeling as a tool to combat illegal drug trafficking, the government of Uzbekistan made a corresponding decision in 2020. The implementation began in 2021 with a pilot project. It was attended by 6 national manufacturers of pharmaceutical products, who were provided free of charge by Asl Belgisi with a complete set of equipment to automate the labeling process and transfer data to the labeling system.
The country labels alcohol, beer and tobacco products, household appliances, water and soft drinks, as well as medicines. The labeling of the latter category of goods was discussed at a press conference held on March 27 at the National Press Center of Uzbekistan. The topic of the meeting was: “Labelling of drugs is the first step towards solving the problems of the drug market in Uzbekistan.” More than 50 foreign pharmaceutical manufacturers showed interest in the pilot project. As a result, it was decided to give producers more time for preparation. The start date for mandatory labeling was postponed by 6 months.
